ACTIVITIES
Downhill skiing:
Kasurila:
• You can go downhill skiing only 20 minutes away from Kuopio at the Kasurila resort, which is easily accessible by bus
• A 1 day ski pass and equipment renting will cost you around 50€ but you can have a group discount if you gather enough friends to go with you.
• The resort is quite small but still sufficient for one day, and it is a nice opportunity if you’ve never skied before. (map of the tracks on the left)
Tahko: http://www.tahko.com/en/
• The Tahko resort is a little futher (70km away from Kuopio)
• Much bigger resort
• Ski pass and rental equipment will cost you around 70€ for one day
Puijo tower
The Puijo tower is one of the monuments of Kuopio. It is located on top of a hill and provides a great panorama of the Kuopio area. We recomand you to check the weather before you go there before if it’s too cloudy you won’t fully appreciate the view. Also it is better to go there during daylight. The price of entrance is 4€
Smoke sauna
The smoke sauna, located at rahualahti is one of the “must do” experiences when visiting Finland, especially the part when you swim into the frozen lake afterwards.
Every Tuesdays: 12€
Ice-skating
One of the perks of having frozen lakes nearby is that you can skate on them. After the ice marathon that occurs in February, the tracks remain open for everyone to use them.
Of course there are also multiple ice rings across the city.
You can rent ice skates but it will be much cheaper to buy some at the second hand shop if you plan to use them more than once.
Hockey games
Hockey is the national sport in finland, which is not the case in many other countries therefore you might not have the opportunity to attend one in you home country.
You can go support KalPa, the local team and it will cost you only 10€ if you are a student.
As you may not know Finland has the particularity to be snowy at least half the year, which enables you to enjoy diverse activities, related to snow.
Cross country skiing:
When the lakes are frozen during the winter (and if you are lucky, the beginning of spring) you can have the great experience to ski on it, therefore admiring the great landscapes of the Kuopio area from a unique perspective.
You can rent a full equipment at the Rauhalahti Hotel for 10€
But you can also buy you own skis in a second hand shop and Ski wherever it pleases you.
