Midnight sun

​

Finland is comonly called the land of the midnight sun. And for good reason. During the months of June and July the sun shines all day and all night in the north, not dropping below the horizon at all

Polar nights

​

​In the middle of winter in the north of Finland, there are days when the sun never makes it above the horizon and everything is bathed in an eerie blue light called kaamos.

Moose hunting

​

Every Fall there is a moose hunting season on countryside that ends with a moose hunting party 'hirvipeijaiset'. The hunters provide the land owners and guests with moose meat dinner, soup or stew. There is also a lot of dancing and drinking. It is highly recommended.

There were 474,277 cottages in Finland (2005). They are residential building that are used on holiday or free-time.
