Before you arrive :

- Apply for your accommodation with Kuopas
- Check your health insurance
- Inform your arrival details to your university tutor: this is really important because your tutor is the person who can pick up your keys at Kuopas and bring it to you so you have your accommodation as soon as you arrive in the city!
- If you are taking regular medication: make sure you have enough for your whole stay !
- Pack up suitable clothing: you absolutely need winter boots, ski outfit, a good hat, and the coat is the most important, a basic winter coat will not be sufficient, you might need a bigger one, or an under coat. You can buy it here but it is expensive, and if you arrive in winter you need it as soon as you get out of the airport. When you arrive:


- We recommend that you pay the student Union. It gives many advantages but can take a while to get the card, so do it as soon as possible.
- University duties : register to student learning services, obtain ID and password the the uni’s IT system, register for your courses and exams… : For all of this you should participate to the orientation days the university offers you. Everything will be done or explained there.
- Visit the student union office: building Lukema (also called Studentia) to get the survival package if necessary.
- Visit the Kuopas office to return the tenancy agreement.
- Pay the rent of your flat.
- Visit the police office for local registration if your stay is longer than 90 days.
- Medical students only: take your health examination reports to Virpi Tauru, pay the deposit for the hospital pass at Kuolo office, and get the hospital pass.

Before you leave:


​- Give notice of departure ONE MONTH BEFORE to Kuopas.
- Return you survival package to the student union office.
- Make sure you returned all the books you borrowed at the library.
- After cleaning the apartment, the keys should be returned to Kuopas if you want to get back the deposit money.
- If you want one, ask for a letter of confirmation at the Internation Student Services.
- Fill out the departure form/ Request for transcript, and return form in person to the student services and ask for your transcript of records.
