The bus system in Kuopio is a little bit specific…but we will keep the explanation simple.

The first thing to know is that the hours indicated in the bus stops are not the hours at which the bus is going to arrive there: it is the hour when the bus is leaving from its departure point. That means that it will arrive later at the bus stop. So always arrive before to be sure that you don’t miss it, after several times you will know exactly the schedule of your stop ☺

The second thing to remember is that when you see your bus, WAVE to make it stop. If you don’t, it’s going to drive right next to you without stopping...Very frustrating!

People from Neulamaki take the bus at “Juontotie 3”
People from Kuntokuja take the bus at “Kuntokuja 2”
To go shopping, you should write the stop “Prisma”
Stops for the university are either “Technopolis” , “Snellmania” or “Canthia” depending on the building you have classes in
The stop in the center is called “Tori”

The buses connections stop pretty early in the night (for example, the last bus to neulamaki is at 2AM). After that, you have two solutions: walking if you have time and energy, or take the Taxi. There is always a lot of taxis waiting on the market place in the night (center of Kuopio), it will cost in average 17€ to go back home, and you can share the cost.

Without cards :

one ride during the day will cost you 3.30€
One ride during the night or on Sunday will cost you 4.40€

With card :

RED card is a monthly card , it cost 45€ with student card.

BLUE card is 20 rides card, it cost 25€ with student card. Note that the first time you buy a card (red or blue) it will cost you 3€ more for the cost of the card itself.

You can buy the bus cards at the sokos shopping center and then recharge it every months from the bus!
